Selecting the Right College Major Can Prepare You to Deal with a Tough/Shifting Labor Market

I always recommend to undergraduates that they consider majoring in economics, math, physics or some other foundational discipline. Such majors offer graduates a lot more freedom when the job market gets tough, or when there is a new and disruptive tech shock (e.g. AI):

Economics majors should consider minoring in one of the following areas to improve their job prospects:
  • Minor in Math
  • Minor in Business Analytics/Data Science
  • Minor in Accounting/Finance
  • Minor in International Studies/International Relations
  • Minor in Political Science/History/Philosophy
